At the annual GreenTech Amsterdam, scheduled for mid-June 2018, delegates can mingle with more than 450 exhibitors from 40-plus nations, there to showcase the latest equipment and technology for the horticulture sector; and learn about the latest innovations in sustainable production.

This year’s GreenTech puts the spotlight on production technology, with exhibitors, conference sessions and keynote speakers geared towards offering “concrete innovative solutions and technologies for the production of vegetables, fruits and flowers”.

In 2018, GreenTech Amsterdam will co-host and share floor space at RAI with a new side event, The Organic Farmers Fair (TOFF) – an exclusive group of exhibitors housed in a separate hall; and will be preceded by the second edition of a one-day high-tech Summit, this year exploring ways to feed and green the world by 2028.

The Organic Farmers Fair (TOFF)

The rapid expansion of the organic farming sector in recent years has put increasing pressure on conventional agriculture to become ‘cleaner and greener’.

TOFF, the inaugural organic farmers’ fair at GreenTech Amsterdam 2018, will host “an exclusive group of exhibitors, specialised in seeds and seedlings, fertilisers, compost resources, bio-pesticides, weed control systems, soil cultivation, research and advice”, say the event organisers.

In line with GreenTech Amsterdam, a dedicated ‘knowledge-exchange’ program will be designed by TOFF’s founding fathers, including:

  • Bejo, a company specialising in the breeding, production and distribution of vegetable seeds;
  • Delphy, a business focused on the development of knowledge on crop cultivation and on optimising conditions for sustainable cultivation);
  • DCM, which produces fertilisers, soils, substrates et cetera;
  • Swiss-based Research Institute of Organic Agriculture, FiBL;
  • Koppert Biological Systems, a firm specialising in biocontrol;
  • Steketee, a business that develops new equipment and machinery for weeding and soil cultivation; and
  • IFOAM – Organics International.

German research institution Wageningen UR is among the event’s supporting ‘knowledge partners’.

New Precision Horticulture and Medicinal & Nutriceutical pavilions

This year, for the first time, GreenTech Amsterdam will incorporate two new pavilions:

  • a Precision Horticulture pavilion, in which innovative techniques and technologies associated with greenhouse management, including cutting-edge hardware and software solutions, will be showcased; and
  • a dedicated Medicinal & Nutraceutical pavilion, designed to disseminate information about recent developments in plant health.

As at previous GreenTech Amsterdam events, this year’s GreenTech will also incorporate several ‘knowledge sessions’ in Amsterdam RAI’s three theatre spaces.

Other GreenTech 2018 highlights

As in previous years, GreenTech and the Association for Vertical Farming (AVF) will co-host the popular Vertical Farming pavilion.

Other perennial GreenTech Amsterdam highlights include:

  • the GreenTech Innovation Awards;
  • the InnovationLAB;
  • the Innovation route; and
  • the opportunity to learn from and network with renowned flower and vegetable breeders from across the world.

Exclusive Summit: ‘Feeding and greening the world by 2028’

On 11 June, the day prior to the official start of GreenTech Amsterdam and TOFF, a one-day ‘high-tech Summit’, hosted for the second time by Amsterdam RAI, will explore the pressing issue of how best to go about ‘feeding and greening’ the world over the coming decade.

This year’s Summit program will be compiled and helmed by a special Summit Committee, a group of well-known international experts from various associated fields.
