Precision farming: harnessing technology to feed the world

As the world’s population continues to grow without a comparable increase in arable land, the world has reached a tipping point in the challenge of meeting global food supply long-term.

The next growth phase in food production will come from applying greater precision to agricultural systems, says Jerry Revich, from Goldman Sachs Research, with advances in hardware, software and computing power converging with technologies such as drones and self-driving tractors to help farmers meet the goal of feeding billons more people over the coming century.
