Australia's Information and Communications Technology centre of excellence in science and innovation brings together top ICT researchers from around Australia and the world to work on use-inspired projects that benefit industry, the community and the national interest. Since its inception in 2002, the National Information and Communications Technology Association (NICTA) has built strong research capability in software systems, networks, machine learning, computer vision and optimisation.
Its business teams focus on three areas of importance to those living and working in remote areas: broadband and the digital economy; infrastructure, transport and logistics; and security and environment. Each NICTA business team project is helmed by ICT researchers supported by an engineering and technology development team and IP, legal and other professionals, and works alongside business and other research institutions to solve problems in ICT. The resulting breakthrough technologies provide commercial opportunities to Australian agribusinesses and have a positive impact on export earnings.
In mid-2014, NICTA entered into a research partnership with Telstra and will work on cutting-edge products and services for the telco.
